Feeding street children during lockdown

Updated: Jun 4

India accounts for the largest children population in the world consisting of about 472 million children and according to campaigners, this lockdown has adversely impacted the lives of around 40 million children belonging to the poor families.

The joy of mothers being able to feed their kids was priceless and kids enjoying their packed meals motivated us to increase the food quantity.

The lockdown had confined everyone to their home. After its official announcement, most people stacked up on the ration and other necessities, so that they could keep their loved ones fed and cared for. We started providing dry groceries as requests started pouring in for groceries from people who had lost their jobs and had no income flow.

However, a section of people who lived on the streets were daily wage earners and took the hardest hit from this lockdown. They had no source of income and food. So catered to their families by providing groceries, but we soon realized that they had no means to cook food without cooking resources like kerosene for stove, oil, masala, vegetables etc.

So rather than providing groceries, we started cooking food and distributing it in the form of packed meals. The joy of mothers being able to feed their kids was priceless and kids enjoying their packed meals motivated us to increase the food quantity and to reach out to as many people in distress as possible.

We would like to thank Rajan & Renuka Bardey for their constant support throughout the campaign.
